I’m tired of all those other orange fruits getting all the home décor attention—oranges (so trite!), tangerines, canteloupes and peaches—when tropical papaya is the boho mama’s choice for eating AND for home décor.
After all, it contains ALL those other shades of orange, PLUS salmon and coral, in a scoopable delight that refreshes the tastebuds AND the eyes like a summer sunrise.
Papaya is rich in betocarotene, potassium, vitamin C, B vitamins, and antioxidants. It’s great straight from the rind, chopped and mixed with other tropical fruits, and blended into a
smoothie, or—even better—
a cocktail. You can even
use the peppery seeds in salads and other recipes.
But mostly—IMHO—papaya is just so sexy
looking when cut open that I’m compelled to use some to decorate my boho home to keep that
other (you know) vibe going.

See how the papaya walls and bedding draw you down that stark white and gray hallway? The lighted arrow is a fun touch, but color alone pointed us in the right direction.
All oranges are energizing. But remember, papaya works for way more than mere walls.
As you pull your boho room together, mix the many shades of papaya’s sweet, melon-like flesh in pillows, rugs, flowers, lampshades, and even picture mats, as you see here (just not
literally, of course). The color spectrum of papaya flesh goes from yellowish to pinky-orange-red, so make sure you pack it all into your roomscape. Slightly contrasting shades of the same color make for a richly layered room.

This isn't my laundry room (oh, how I wish!!), but my laundry room and adjacent powder room are a pale papaya. It was a take-off from the bright orange and yellows in some fun art hanging in there. And I plan to paint the bath vanity (now pickled oak) a more intense shade called papaya punch. My bit of papaya décor perks me up while I sort lights from darks and helps keep me feeling positive (well, okay,
neutral) about a never-ending household chore.
That’s also a great reason for papaya décor in the kitchen.
But don’t stop with just the walls here either. Papaya can do so much more.
