Nothing feels better than a good night's sleep, and nothing feels worse than slogging through a day when we didn't get enough sleep the night before.
I know firsthand. My eyelids are drooping as I search to put my fingertips on the correct keys. I tried all week to write this post. Guess I needed a bad night's sleep to inspire me.
By the time Friday rolls around, we're all ready to leave the work world behind, fall into bed, and sleep late Saturday and Sunday, if life lets us. If you manage it, enjoy your rest. You deserve it, so think kind thoughts of yourself.
Hope this post helps you chill with some ready-to-fall-into-and-get-swallowed-up bed vignettes with a side dose of wisdom from some master snoozers.
1. The Ernest-Hemingway-Passed-Out-Here Bed
I love sleep.
My life has the tendency to fall apart
when I'm awake, you know?
when I'm awake, you know?
- Ernest Hemingway
- Noam Chomsky
3. Will Shakespeare's Tempest-Tossed-Tragicomedy Bed
We are such stuff as dreams are made on;
and our little life is rounded with a sleep.
- William Shakespeare
4. Marilyn Monroe's I-Like-Sleeping-Alone Bed
The nicest thing for me is sleep,
then at least I can dream.
- Marilyn Monroe
5. William Butler Yeats' Late-Life Childhood-Regression Bed
When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep.
- William Butler Yeats
I wake and I'm one person, and when I go to sleep
I know for certain I'm somebody else.
- Bob Dylan
7. Walt Whitman's Leaves-on-the-Wall-Are-Good-as-Grass Bed
Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons:
it is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.
- Walt Whitman
BONUS: Honore de Balzac's House-Husbandry-Early-Warning-Signs Bed
A good husband is never the first to go to sleep at night
or the last to awake in the morning.
- Honore de Balzac
Don't know about your house, but some things still need working on around mine. Think I'll go wake Chris up and see if he can fix them. ;->
