Got Mail #6 / Boho must-haves from Anthro spring collection

I know I’m guaranteed some boho home décor beauty when the seasons start to change and Anthropologie rolls out its new collection. Take it from me, this year’s spring home-decor offerings are a breath of boho fresh air.

I also know the door’s open in this photo, but let’s stay inside a bit and look around. After all, that’s what a lookbook’s for, and this one will have you ogling, drooling and spending before you know what’s hit you.

Comfort for living

I can’t begin to identify every new piece in each photo, but I’ll try to hit the highlights.

My absolute fave in this photo is that wild and crazy chair—the Medina-Printed Rivona Chair. The Medina print reappears in other new pieces. The inspiration for the fabric is Moroccan, but the chair is all midcentury modern. Love those legs!

Told you you'd see it reinterpreted on other pieces. Meet the Medina-Printed Tassa Sectional. It’s low-slung and pillowy, and if you fall asleep on it you’re liable to wake up in One Thousand and One Nights. Scheherazade never had it sooooooo good.

Here’s another view of the Tassa, paired up with the equally transporting Moroccan Wedding Ottoman. It functions as a coffee-table ottoman OR a bench for extra seating. I’m just wondering why it took someone so long to turn the ubiquitous Moroccan wedding blanket into multifunctional furniture.

Love those slender golden legs! I think I have legs on the brain, if that's anatomically possible...??

Here are some other beauties that caught my eye (clockwise from top left):

• The Floret Occasional Chair (you caught a glimpse of it in purple earlier but it also comes in green) features cotton velvet upholstery on a rosewood frame. What more could you ask for? 
• The Moussem Ceramic Stool, designed by Tracy Boyd, made of glazed white clay. It wants to cuddle up to a chair in my living room, but it would also work on a patio.
• The Zaylie Chair is inspired by Suzani applique and embroidery and sports embellishment all the way around, so be sure to place it where it can be viewed from a variety of angles. 
• The Kezia Occasional Chair is upholstered in your choice of three printed velvets. ‘Nuf said, right? 
• The Tanja Trunk makes a terrific coffee table or end-of-bed accent with its natural wood, incised eight-point stars and antique-iron accents. 
• This collection of Sketched Safari Chairs, by fashion designer Edward Hall, is the perfect anchor for any global-inspired home. So many shapes, sizes, animal prints and colors! Begin your safari hanging out with the elephants on the Purple Holloway Chair and the Canary-colored Tillie, then run with the big cats in the Indigo Bixby and the bright Orange Tillie. The collection also includes a flamingo-printed chair, as well as elephant wallpaper and a tiger lampshade, but I’ll let you hunt those down on your own.

Nothing tells a sweeter story, gathered ‘round a table, than Anthro’s Folkthread Chairs, reinterpreted this season in recycled silk in three colors to mix and match. I’m also in love with the plushy Kinza Rug beneath. It’s shown in ivory but also comes in a black-and-white version.

And what would any gathering be without romantic, mood-setting lighting? I’m loving (left to right): the Abalorio Chandelier, the Nomad Pendant, and the Beadcraft Chandelier.

Dreamy boho bedrooms

The Premium Leather Rhys Bed comes in 13 colors and four sizes. Here it’s dressed in one of my favorite new duvet sets, the Kessabine, shown in slate but also available in orange. I love the embroidery, pompons and fringe against soft cotton, don’t you?

The striking Geo Brass Inlay bedroom furniture collection includes this platform bed with massive headboard in tropical hardwood, inlaid with brass, and the diminutive nightstand shown. There’s also a three-drawer chest of drawers to complete the sweet suite.

The Prana Bedroom Collection showcases the natural beauty of multi-hued, live-edge oak and includes the bed, nightstand and six-drawer chest shown. And there’s that Moroccan Wedding Ottoman again, this time at the bed’s foot. All items are sold separately.

If this rooms isn’t glamorous boho—glambo—I'll eat my pompons. The Velvet Ainesworth Bed comes in 18 colors and two sizes, each and every one fit for a princess, a diva, a super-model, or glamorous, boho you. The Velvet Edilyn Bench comes in all the same colors so you can have a custom match as well as a comfy seat to take your shoes on and off.

Some of my favorite new Anthro bedding includes (clockwise from top left) :

• The Kerry Cassill Persica Quilt and shams, which call to mind lovely, gently worn bedding you might find in the Paris Flea Market. Here it’s paired with the Lulie Wallace Cascabel Sheet Set. I can almost smell peaches, can’t you? 
• The Woven Sunset Duvet and shams is by LA’s All Roads Design and features standard, king and euro sham options. I love its happy pinks, and, of course, I adore anything that comes out of the All Roads’ workshop. 
• I don’t often point out cute kid's stuff (unless I want it for my adult self!), but the Wilderness Map collection of toddler and infant bedding is an exception. It’s perfect for your little cowboy or trailblazer or bronc-buster. Check out the buffalo! I bet there’s an antelope in there somewhere too. 
• Ditto for the Cat Collective collection. Wish I had a young child so I could decorate with that, right down to the cute little bereted cat pillow. Turn him over and check out his stuffed tail! 

Weave me some happiness

Nobody does textiles better than Anthropologie, and they’ve really outdone themselves this spring. There’s a vast array of new colorful throws, rugs and pillows….

...as well as designs in black, white and other neutrals. I just adore the detail and the workmanship in these pieces. I could look all day and touch all night if they’d only lock me in the store! (I keep trying!)

My favorite rugs will probably be sold out by the time this post appears. From left to right, my penultimate picks include the very boho Versify Rug with its all-over tassels, the William Morris-inspired Wyla Rug done in crewel embroidery, and the Embroidered Tiger Rug, available in either orange or teal.

Anthropologie’s unique, handcrafted rugs do often sell out quickly, particularly in the smaller, less pricier sizes. If, like me, you have wall-to-wall carpet and no good space for an area rug (and your budget doesn’t allow a bigger size) get the one you like in a 3-by-5 and hang it on the wall as art. But get it quick, before it’s gone, K?

I’m really into the look of a handcrafted throw at the foot of my bed since I redid my bedding with one of Anthropologie's throws. But now they have plenty of new choices for me to drool over. Clockwise from top left, meet my spring collection picks:

• The Tufted Desert Throw, the latest from All Roads Design, which simply SINGS summer sunset. 
• The Centrale Throw Blanket, which I simply MUST have for my living room. 
• The Woven Poms Throw in mind-bending boho coral. 
• The Textured Indira Throw in a cadre of neutrals. 
• The rug-like Aldalora Throw in either neutral or blue. 
• The Tufted Yoursa Throw with its sweet patchwork of soft stripes, outlined in poms.

And I could never forget throw pillows, especially these, with lots and lots of fringe, poms, tassels and embroidery. From left to right, shop the Marisol collection (which includes the 30-by-30-inch floor pillow shown at bottom), the Tufted Leyland collection, and the Tufted Yoursa collection.

• The Eyelash-Fringed Catchall Basket, handcrafted by women in Rwanda, 
• Ditto for the Lidded Tassel Basket, in white. 
• The Cassatt Woven Vessel, a delightful mix of glazed stoneware, wool roving, and manila and cotton rope, designed by mixed media artist Karen Gayle Tinney. 
• Playtime Canvas Bins, which are just too cute in my book to limit to the kids. (I want that sweet alpaca one for my office.) 
• The Cat Study Hook in orange, designed by Brooklyn-based Leah Goren. 
• The Tasseled Pera Baskets, which come in in three colors and shapes (my favorite, a gorgeous gold, is not shown).

Fiber wallhangings have been making a big comeback from the 1960s and 70s, and Anthro adds to its collection each season. But when each style's gone, it's gone. Here are, left to right, newbies Ojai Fringed Wall Art in your choice of two motifs, the statement-making Macrame Woven Wall Art, and Salinas Fringed Wall Art in your choice of three motifs.

What would any Anthropologie catalog be without unique pottery? Clockwise from top left, meet my new best friends, Wild Alpaca Pots, Gold Accent Dessert Plates (hang them on the wall as art!), Arletta Coasters, and Simea Mugs.

Last but not least are two more woven wonders: the Tulum Hammock, which is embroidered but reminds me of mud cloth, and the Beadwork Hammock, designed by LA artist, sculpture and jewelry designer Julie Rofman to emulate the look of her intricate beadwork.

Best of boho picks from Anthropologie fall home collection

Anthropologie released its new fall house and home collection this week, so I thought I'd give you the best-of-boho-home-decor highlights, according to me.

First up, my furniture faves

Needless to say, all these are in the "dream on" category for me. But they're glorious to behold and might be just what you're looking for.

Meet the Handcarved Frond Bed, making good on the nature/greenery trend in full swing this year. Intertwined palm fronds are rendered in brass (another trend!) and mango wood, and the bed is available in queen and king sizes.

The Oscarine Lucite Four-Poster Bed is a dreamy extension of all those ghost chairs and Lucite curtain rods making their rounds. Trimmed in gleaming cast brass ensures it will still be seen, though. Available in king and queen, as well as in a headboard-and-frame version without the posts.

The Rug-Printed Darcy Daybed is done in cotton velvet on a hardwood frame. A similarly patterned, standard bed, the Orianna, is available in three colorways, from full-size to California king.

My hands-down favorite is the Handwoven Silk Carpet Ottoman done in 100-percent silk on a brass and iron frame and available in two colorways. I'm partial to the blue and green, pictured in the foreground of the picture on the left, but I wouldn't turn up my nose at the red and white, by any means. Both are GORGEOUS, but priced at nearly $3,500 they'll go on my "Things to Buy if I Ever Win the Lottery" list.

The Lombok Armoire carries on the Anthro artisan tradition, handcarved in mango wood. The description says the lacey-patterned doors make a lively pattern play when they catch the sun. Wouldn't it be cool to see the mandala pattern bounce around your bedroom when you lie down for a dreamy afternoon nap?

Just as dreamy, but in a fairytale kind of way, is the Land and Sky Buffet, handcarved in poplar. I love the assymetric look of the piece with the knotty tree trunks making up the lefthand legs and the deer's hooves adding four righthand legs.

For those of you who take your boho with a dose of glam, the Velvet Kettleby Tete-a-Tete plays on a few trends: daybeds, "statement" seating, and VELVET, which, honestly, is a classic in and of itself. This one's available in 19 colors for your seating and eye pleasure, and the two-inch-high oak-finished legs are removable.

The big news is the collection of Boucharouette Wall Art handwoven in Morocco of cotton and polyester. I've only pictured six here, but there are 22 patterns to choose from, each in a single size. Widths range from 30 to 55 inches, while lengths range from 51 to 102 inches, depending on the style you choose. Prices start at $440 and top out at $820.

More in my price range are these new pillows, and you can never have enough of those, right? At left are the Heradia Pillows, which are my favorites. They're done on embroidered slubbed cotton with hand-applied acrylic and nylon embellishments. The Mercado Global Pillows at right are cute, too, if you're into the black-and-white aesthetic. They're done in cotton brocade by Guatemalan artisans. I love the little pop of red in the tassels!

The Heradia Throw, which coordinates with those cute-as-can-be pillows, measures a big 50-by-70 inches. The throw itself is cotton, and the tassels are wool. Other embroidery and embellishment is done in polyester. It comes in charcoal (shown) or ivory and coordinates with the Heradia pillows pictured above. I can see them all working together to dress a pretty boho bed, but I'm thinking of them for my living room. Maybe on my Christmas wishlist?

The Embroidered Argenta Duvet is cotton chambray in a soft blue. I remember having a blue chambray workshirt in high school that I embroidered with flowers. It got softer and softer every time I wore it. That would certainly be the case with this set. It comes in twin through king sizes. Matching standard and Euro shams are available separately.

Maybe a vacation would help to some mysterious boho clime. But if that's not in the cards for you, there's still the Alcazar Pendant. I always say, If you can't go to Morocco, bring Morocco to you, which is S.O.P. on my budget. Even the cord is gilted (so you don't have to be, HAH)! The pendant is made to be hardwired and comes in antiqued copper (shown) or brass.

If you're more romantic boho or shabby chic, the Flutter Pendant is made to order. It also must be hardwired and comes in three delicious shades: teal, blush and clear. I love how it looks against the white tile in this photo and think it could be oh-so-cute in a bath or even multiples over a kitchen island. Sweet!!

I'm thinkin' this Cactus Light just could be the answer to my cacti-growing dilemma here in the too-wet summers and too-gray winters of the Midwest US. It's molded vinyl, measures 15 inches high, and uses an LED bulb. And there's no thorns!! 

Green with envy or just plain stoned?

Anthro's got you covered with all sorts of swirly, marblelicious stuff, including the Malachite Rug, which comes in five sizes and two colors (green and gold). It's already sold out in one of those sizes, so if it strikes a vein with you (yuck-yuck), don't wait.

These cuties I can see brightening up my own home office, or better yet a dressing table! How 'bout that Even-Handed Desk Clip? The base looks like malachite but is made of glass and fiberboard. The matching Malachite Trinket Dish is a must-have go-with for all your desk-like or pretty-up what-nots. The malachite pattern in this one is enamel on metal.

Nobody does cute decorative pottery like Anthro, and these new offerings are no exception. Clockwise from top left, choose from the Jovana Soap Dish in three yummy patterns (also make great trinket dishes!), the Kupio Handpainted Vases (sold as a set of three), the Dottie Honey-Pot (love the crackled glaze), and the Imaginaria Figurines (ranging in price from $20 to $38).

You can be that Imaginaria cat is already on MY Christmas list.

Finally, get organized!

Let the Ziggy Basket help. At a full 23 inches high and 17 inches in diameter, it would work great as a hamper in bath, bedroom or laundry room. But if you think it's too pretty to hide, it would also hold throws, pillows, games and such in your living area. It's made of cotton and rope. Don't you love the blocked printting and the topstitching?

Last but not least is this clever Wooden Book Rack made of oak and waxed cotton string by artisans in Reykjavik, Iceland. Brrrrrr. I'm loving the idea of displaying some of my smaller, well-crafted books this, but the $168 price tag leaves me cold and shivering, like the land it came from.

Surely some of you DIY geniuses out there will come up with some low-cost knock-offs. I even included the detail photos so you could see how it's made. I might even put Mr. Chris to work on this one. I'd like mine done in cherry, I think... Hey Chris, honey-sweetie-pie...

A chic boho oasis in a LA hacienda home

When this L.A. home's current owners were house-hunting and first saw the glass-ceilinged solarium in this hacienda-style home, they were more than a little stumped. Of course the light was great, but how to decorate it? So they enlisted the help of a designer friend, Pam Shamshiri of Commune Design, and together transformed it into a cozy, multifunctional space that’s very boho, family friendly, and oh-so chic.

It was Shamshiri's idea to warm it up with rugs. But rather than just lay one here and another there, she had them sewn together to create a boho patchwork-style “carpet.”

Notice the cross-stitches of metallic thread used to connect the rugs.

Some rugs were also made up into pillows for a rich, encompassing global look.

If you can take your eyes off the Spanish tile staircase, thought to be original to the house, check out the hobbit-styled doors beneath it. After the family moved in, they cleared out left-behind firewood from the nook and created playhouse space for the family’s youngest child.

The slightly more formal living room functions as a music room and can be closed off when privacy is needed. I love those colorful ottomans near the fireplace. They look like modern art, but the flower-like patterns were made by the feet of children.

Here, kids can eat breakfast at the counter, mom can tack up their art up on the bathroom door, and the family dog, can snooze nearby.

The eight-year-old son’s room is visible from the solarium, so the palette was kept tight and the furniture timeless to ensure flow. I like how the owner uses colorful woven bags, like the one at left, throughout the children’s spaces to corral toys and projects.

Pink makes everything pop in the four-year-old daughter’s room. What a great background for white bookshelves!
