The architecture of this Santa Barbara, Calif., home definitely says Mediterranean, but owner
Kendall Conrad said it whispered a boho vibe to her the moment she walked into it.
The leather and suede accessories designer was eight months pregnant with her first child at the time. And though she hadn’t really considered moving back to her native Santa Barbara, she knew when she saw it she wanted to raise her family in
this home. Two daughters later, she and husband/photographer
David Cameron have put down boho roots with a story-filled mix of art, textiles, pottery, antiques and family heirlooms.

“I love my office because of the fireplace and all my children’s art,” Conrad says. “There’s a portrait of my grandmother, a colorful monkey my friend painted, and I did the blue tiger when I was 12.”
I like the mix of
frames on the artwork, that gorgeous patterned vase and the way the geometry of the Moroccan rug and the floor tiles work together.

In case you were wondering where the fireplace was she referenced, it’s across the room from the daybed. On Conrad’s adjacent desk is a cherished bull collection. “I’m a Taurus, and my father was a bullfighter in Spain,” she says. “So they’re symbolic to me.”

Conrad’s library is a fountain of inspiration for her designs. “Photography, fashion, sculpture, nature—it all gets in,” she says. I love the woven pedestal table and the ceramic jar lamp. And don't miss the mobile spinning overhead. It's by

See if you can pick out a few of Conrad’s treasures on these wonderfully packed shelves: the matador’s hat worn by her father, an Egyptian Coptic cross, and a leather box she made for herself.

The living room's tile floor and stunning architectural detail are traditional California Mediterranean. Conrad and husband painted the dark ceiling beams white to lighten the overall look of the room.

Shells from family travels are presided over by a bullfighter sketch done by Conrad’s father.
It’s an interesting twist that the shells fill a platter instead of a bowl or jar. It makes it easier to pick through them—which you automatically WANT to do. And the smaller pile to the right looks as if someone recently has done just that, singling out a few of their favorites.

The dining table was made from an antique Spanish door, and the woven chairs lighten its look. On the table, a
Miri Mara vase sits near striped cups by an unidentified local artisan.
Me? I’m crushing on that old Spanish cupboard. I love its flattened ball feet and intricate carved detail.

Even the kitchen holds its share of handcrafted items, including a gorgeous platter on the timeworn table repurposed as an island, which is a story in itself! I also love the idea of using a silver ice bucket to corral wooden spoons by the stove. Kendall's sister,
Cayetana Conrad, painted the still life.

Conrad loves ethnic pottery from other cultures. “The pieces are from all over—plates from Mexico, a pre-Columbian pot, trays from Fiji,” she says. “The rosemary and lemons are from our garden.”
Somehow I knew that. Yes, I'm envious, as anyone from Indiana might be. Tell me the avocados in the previous picture were also picked on site and I just might die of envy.

More gorgeous textiles in the master bedroom (bedding by Matteo) and a peek into a serene boho bath. One of my many boho home décor dreams is to have a bathroom with enough room for a real chest of drawers. I’d settle for this one and die happy. I meant the chest, but the bath is lovely too.

The mix of textures on top of the Indian inlaid bureau also makes my mouth water. Notice the little snakeskin box and tiger-wood set of drawers Conrad uses to store her jewelry. The shell and coral photo is by LA artist Charles Fine.

In one of the gardens (yes, there are more!) refreshment awaits. “That’s David's and my little spot,” Conrad says. “We like to sit there in the evening and have some wine.” A leopardwood bowl holds blood oranges from citrus trees that grows on the property.
